DOST V provides P6M innovation system support to 13 local MSMEs

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region V conducted a Ceremonial Fund Release for the last quarter and formally turned-over the agency’s assistance to thirteen (13) micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). These firms are currently enrolled under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP) and received the innovation system support of almost Six Million Pesos (P6M) that will improve product marketability and profitability.

The SETUP cooperators include five (5) food processing companies namely: one (1) in Albay (Ben’s Baker Corporation, Daraga, Albay); three (3) in Camarines Norte (Nicole’s Food Products, Daet; JohnMae Bakery and Grocery, Jose Panganiban and Jen-K Bakery, Paracale) and one (1) in Camarines Sur (Carla’s Cake, Liboton, Naga City).

Six (6) firms are engaged in metals and engineering. These are: Nicole’s Marketing and Car Care Center, Daet, Camarines Norte; Axcesoria Enterprises, Bato and Romsing Gravel and Sand, Virac, Catanduanes; Esquillo’s Enterprises, Gubat Sorsogon; and Leo Artates Welding Shop, Cataingan and Barotil Gun Repair, Welding and Machine Shop, Kinamaligan, Masbate.

The other two (2) firms are Boyet Rice Mill, Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte and Jeff Imperial Creatives IT Solutions, Canaman, Camarines Sur.

SETUP, DOST’s banner technology transfer and commercialization program, was introduced in 2002 aimed to provide S&T interventions to local MSMEs in improving production and product quality through technology innovation and upgrading. Through the years, SETUP has given awards and recognitions to successful firms whose achievements in enterprise development have become part of DOST good news and success stories. They have inspired and served as models of innovations and excellence for current and would-be entrepreneurs and start-up businesses. Most of SETUP cooperators and awardees (J. Emmanuel Pastries; Belen’s Pinahamis na Pili Atbp., and Jannah’s Pasalubong, to name a few) have gained improved product sales and market expansion in the local and export market.

During the turn-over ceremony, Dir. Tomas B. Briñas, Regional Director, DOST V elated the firms and the private sector on their symbiotic roles with government as partners in the development of the region and the country in general. Aside from SETUP, DOST also offers S&T support services such as Promotion, Consultancy and Technical Assistance, Product Testing and Standards, among others.
