The Southern Luzon Cluster (SLC) composed of National Capital Region (NCR), Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Bicol celebrated the Science and Technology Fair last 22-24 November 2012 at Walter Mart, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. This is part of the countrywide celebration of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) with the theme “Science, Technology and Innovation: Working Together for Growth and Development”.
Hon. Oscar S. Rodriguez, City Mayor of San Fernando, Pampanga and Cong. Jun Omar C. Ebdane, 2nd District of Zambales graced the opening ceremony last 22 November 2012 together with Undersecretary for Regional Operations Dr. Carol M. Yorobe and the Sixteen (16) Regional Director’s of DOST.
The three-day activity showcased DOST programs and services of the agencies, the achievements of the MSMEs thru DOST Regional Offices, MSMEs and Project beneficiaries. Also research colloquiums of PCIEERD were conducted to update beneficiaries and partners of recent developments and trends on the different fields of sciences. A total of five thousand six hundred thirty seven (5,637) visitors from the National Government Agencies (NGAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), Students/Academe, Media and Walk-in visitors attended the three-day activity.
SLC’s culminating activity on 24 November 2012 highlighted the Science Explorer Bus of Science Education Institute, S&T Quiz Bee, and On-the-spot Poster Making Contest dedicated for the youth. Winners for the S&T Quiz Bee individual categories are: Karla L. Soliman of Information and Communication Technology High School and Angelo Brian M. Evangelio San Lorenzo Ruiz Center of Studies and Schools (B1) tied for the 1st prize and Reanne M. Estacio and Clarisse Anne D. Nuqui both from St. Scholastica’s Academy of Pampanga shared the 3rd prize. For the Team competition, Pampanga High School composed of Sheena Anne H. Garcia, Raphael Benedict G. Luta and Nelson C. Miclat ranked 1st, University of the Assumption composed of Dane Carla N. Dimarucut, Dean Potcholo S. Mercado and Mitzi Bernadette M. Salvalosa ranked 2nd, and Information and Communication Technology High School composed of Karla L. Soliman, Mairre Louie D. Punsalan and Vir Angelo E. Manalo ranked 3rd. Ms. Josie D. Albao, SRS II of DOST V served as the Quiz master. Winners for the S&T Poster Making are: Rio Rangel Bernarte of San Fernando Elementary School ranked 1st, Denese D. Abillada of San Agustin Elementary School ranked 2nd, and Dan Louis M. de la Cruz of Sindalan Elementary School ranked 3rd.
SLC congratulates all the winners for the S&T Quiz Bee and Poster Making contests. The successful conduct of the activity paved the way for beneficiaries and would be benefactors of DOST who were updated and informed of the different services and programs, and the current developments in the field of sciences.
