DOST-V launches new web series

The Department of Science and Technology Region V (DOST-V) debuted its first web series “Alas-DOST Na! DOSTkusyon Na!” on 30 July 2021 on the DOST Region V official Facebook page, with simulcast on Radyo Veritas Legazpi and Veritas TV. Science time is happening every Friday, two o’clock in the afternoon for our stakeholders and the general public.

Developed and produced by DOST-V’s S&T Promotion and Information Services Unit, the premiere was hosted by Regional Director Rommel Serrano and S&T Promo Officer-in-Charge Engr. Domingo A. Peña Jr. Two segments composed the first three episodes, each featuring key DOST programs:

Episode 1: SETUP or the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program, and DOST S&T Scholarship

  • Tekno-Asenso: ‘State-of-the-art’ farm, posible sa SETUP
    • Mr. Ranulfo Cambi shares the story of Cambi Integrated Farm and their progress through the technology interventions of SETUP.
  • Oragon: Kwentong tagumpay, kwentong DOST scholar
    • Through an interview with RD Serrano via Zoom, Hon. John Paul Erlano talks on his experience and learnings as a DOST scholar, and its impact on his endeavors as Board Member of the 2nd District of Sorsogon.

Episode 2: Bicol Regional Invention Contest and Exhibits (BRICE), and DOST- Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS)

  • “BRICE and shine” sa invention contest ng DOST
    • Prof. Joel Habalo of Bicol University encourages inventors and researchers to join the 2021 BRICE, by demonstrating his 2017 1st runner up-winning entry
  • Success sa JLSS: Maging DOST Scholar ka!
    • Via Zoom, RD Serrano interviews one of the successful 2021 JLSS qualifiers in the Bicol Region – John Rheal Loreno of Magallanes, Sorsogon.

Episode 3: Science and Technology Academic and Research Based Openly Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS) and DOST-Academe Technology- Based Enterprise Development (DATBED)

  • Star ang kaalaman sa STARBOOKS!
    • Science teacher Ms. Jennevin Convocar and Principal Mr. Roger Llave talk on the benefit of STARBOOKS to Masarawag National High School in Guinobatan, Albay.
  • DATBED: Tekno-negosyong tulong sa mga batang entrepreneurs
    • With the recent turn-over of Stage II funding for her Exotix Organicum Mushroom Farm in Camarines Sur, Ms. Ma. Bernadette Navera shares her journey as a DATBED techno-preneur with RD Serrano.

With the launching of this web series, DOST-V leverages on the trend of information dissemination through social media along with strengthening existing information avenues and partnership with local media outlets. Alas-DOST Na! further reinforces DOST’s presence in the Bicol Region through an informative and engaging presentation of its programs, projects, services and activities.
