Pan de Masbate adopts e-Nutribun production technology

August 27, 2021

Pan De Masbate, a local bakeshop in Masbate is now producing the DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) developed e-Nutribun. It is the first MSME in the province to secure the license to manufacture this healthier  bread option for Masbateños.

Introduced in the 1970s, the Nutribun was distributed to public school children to help curb malnutrition in the country. Recently, it was revitalized by DOST-FNRI as the e-Nutribun, an improved version in terms of nutritional benefits and acceptability to the palate of the present generation.

According to DOST-FNRI, one 160-gram piece of e-Nutribun can provide 60% of the recommended nutrient intake (RNI) of iron and vitamin A, 59% of protein, 58% of dietary fiber, 40% of calcium, 30% of zinc, and 30% of potassium, based on the 2015 Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes (PDRI) for male children who are 6-9 years old.

Pan de Masbate, owned by Ms. Divinia N. Salvacion and was awarded the 2020 Best SETUP Adoptor in Bicol, targets to supply feeding programs in Masbate by government agencies such as DepEd, DSWD, National Nutrition Council, and local government units. The firm is soon to complete the procurement of upgraded equipment through the approved Phase 2 project under DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).  The technology intervention will provide the firm’s capability to mass produce e-Nutribun with quality and consistency.
