DOST deploys STARBOOKS to CEST communities in CamSur
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) deployed Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Stations (STARBOOKS) to Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) communities during the Turnover Ceremony at Royale Emelina, Naga City on 18 May 2022. STII Director Richard P. Burgos, DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña, and Regional Director Rommel R. Serrano personally awarded seven (7) STARBOOKS units to the beneficiary schools headed by Department of Education (DepED) Regional Director Dr. Gilbert T. Sadsad.
CEST, a package of S&T interventions is one of the flagship programs of DOST regional offices for building progressive, empowered, and resilient rural communities. The STARBOOKS, intervention under human resource development/education component is dubbed as the first Philippine Science and Technology digital library in the country.
"To elevate the aspirations of our youth, we started to digitize the contents of our library," Dir. Burgos said. He mentioned that STARBOOKS contains reference materials along with science and math teaching modules under the K-12 curriculum which are aligned with the DepED competency-based instruction. It also includes livelihood videos from the Technology Resource Center (TRC) that can stimulate every Filipino's entrepreneurial capacity.
Patrocenio Dela Torre National high School, Tiburcio A. Berdida National High School, Mansalaya National High School, Sinuknipan National High School, Tinalmud National High School, Antipolo Heights Integrated School, and Tinago Elementary School were selected as recipients of the said technology.
