PSTC Catanduanes, DICT, PhilFIDA, PASO launch Abaca Catanduanes website

Recently, Catanduanes is declared as Abaca Capital of the Philippines, in honor of its status as the country's biggest producer of abaca and making the Philippines world-renowned as "Manila Hemp" in the fiber sector, and support of the agricultural development of the province. The province held an annual celebration to showcase the fiber industry.

As part of celebration of the 6th Abaca Festival. The DOST-PSTC Catanduanes with the DICT, PhilFIDA, and PASO officially launched the Abaca Catanduanes website, an online registration of abacaleros that aims to showcase the Catanduanes Abaca and broaden awareness of the different aspects of the industry last March 26, 2022, in Provincial Capitol of Catanduanes.

It will ease the information dissemination on news, projects, and activities on abaca and offers simple access to essential information such as the profile of Abacaleros, Abaca Strippers, Local Traders and Buyers, and Abaca products.

Present on this significant occasion were Governor Joseph Cua, Mr. Roberto Lusuegro of PhilFIDA, Ms. Nelia Tatad of PASO, Mr. Mario John Gonzales of DICT, Ms. Maria Belma Escote of DTI, Ms. Abelisa D. Evangelista of CatSU, Heads and Representatives of Municipal Agriculture Offices, PASO staffs and DOST staffs.

Governor Cua expressed his gratitude to the website developers, and everyone involved in the making of the website. And stated "An event niato ngunyan patunay na an sentro kan satuyang okasyon iyo an satuyang Abacaleros. The website is FOR THEM. The website is, as a matter of fact, a crucial endeavor for a purpose that is often overlooked—identification of each and every single abacaleros in Catanduanes." he stated.
