DOST-V conducts awareness training for food stall owners

Aiming to educate the food cart and canteen concessionaires of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) - Legazpi on proper handling and sanitation during their operations, the Department of Science and Technology Region V (DOST-V) conducted an Awareness Training on food safety and manufacturing standards at Media Center Hall, UST-Legazpi, Rawis Campus on 06 August 2022.

Twenty (20) university food stall owners and crew members were oriented and trained on the current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), basic food hygiene, and Presidential Decree No. 856 generally known as the Sanitation Code of the Philippines.

Ms. Ma. Theresa D. Alcantara, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations, discussed FS CoVID19: Ensuring Food Safety for Food Pick-up and Delivery in the New Normal. On the other hand, Ms. Fae B. Banda, Science Research Specialist II, covered GMP and Basic Food Hygiene, as well as PD No. 856.

During the initiative, Ms. Jacquenette Ann V. Calamucha, ESO Officer of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Legazpi was present to discuss the role of the LGU in implementing the Sanitation Code of the Philippines. Also, DOST-V and LGU-Legazpi had an agreement on the implementation of FOODSAFE: Establishing Scoring System for Street Food Vending in Legazpi City in CY 2018.
