PSTO Albay, UPLB STK conduct training on soil test utilization for agricultural workers within the province

The Department of Science and Technology Region V ( DOST V) through its Provincial S and T Office - Albay in cooperation with University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB)- the Sulong Tulong para sa Kalupaan ( STK) organized a technology training on soil test utilization on 31 August 2022 at APAO Building, Cabangan, Camalig, Albay. The activity was participated in by municipal agriculturists, agricultural extension workers and agricultural technologists from the province of Albay.

The ULPB STK project team conducted technical presentations on soil sampling and soil analysis using the soil test kit. The team demonstrated the soil sampling considerations and use of test kits for decision support for nutrient management.

DOST V Regional Director Rommel R. Serrano and ARD for Technical Operations Ma. Theresa D. Alcantara highlighted the importance of soil analysis and the kit as inexpensive quick field test alternative. It has impact to production and potential income derived from crop production when used properly and effectively.

The DOST V PSTO- Albay led the distribution of soil test kits to municipal/city LGUs. Engr. Domingo Peña, Jr., PSTD Albay extended his appreciation to the participants and STK project team for this training activity. He also reminded the LGUs that DOST V will monitor the actual usage and report issues/concerns/status of the deployed soil test kits.
